Family Gold Coast Holiday

A few days ago my family and I – my parents, two brothers, sister-in-law, and two young nephews – had a mini holiday down at the Gold Coast. It’s always good to get away for a bit, have a change of scenery and get out of the usual routine.

I love the beach. Any beach. It’s always been one of my favourite places. As soon as I’m standing on the sand in front of the water I relax. Whatever weight I’ve been feeling lifts off my shoulders. I can breathe properly.

Aside from running around after two little hurricanes (otherwise known as my nephews) I mostly just took photos of the moon and water. We were lucky enough to be at the beach during a full moon, and seeing it rise over the water in the pink glow of a sunset was one of the most beautiful things. I feel so grateful to have seen it. My photos do not come close to doing it justice, but I’m still fairly proud of how they turned out.

I need to spend more time at the beach. I’m lucky enough to live relatively close to both the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, so I really don’t have any excuse for not going! I just need to make the effort to be more organised so I can get away every now and then.

It’s Never Too Late To Be Who You Might Have Been

My birthday is in 2 weeks. I will turn 38. And this year I’ve decided to stop panicking about getting older. Life is short and too many people don’t get to live theirs. I don’t want to spend any more time wasting mine.

I’ve spent the last few days making bucket lists. I have a list of things I want to do/accomplish over my whole life, and a list of items to do/accomplish within the next 2 years (among other things, I am a compulsive list maker!). Some of these items overlap. Some items are only on one list. Some of them may not me relevant to me by this time next year, or even in 6 months. And that’s ok. New dreams will be made and old dreams may become unimportant. Life is about growing, evolving. And I expect my lists will grow and evolve along with me.

Bucket List – Life

  • be a published children’s author.
  • learn to windsurf (I’ve had one lesson before and it was SO MUCH FUN)
  • Anne of Green Gables trip to P.E.I with Mum.
  • holiday alone at the beach for a few days.
  • go on an African safari.
  • see the Northern Lights.
  • experience Christmas in winter again, with snow.
  • visit Uluru.
  • learn to play my keyboard.
  • learn to use my camera properly – maybe actually take a photography course.
  • grow my own herbs and veggies (and keep them alive!)
  • go whale watching.
  • go storm chasing with professionals (I have this intense fear of tornados, and am completely fascinated by them at the same time)
  • go to the Bathurst 1000 with Dad.
  • drive around Mt. Panorama (where the Bathurst 1000 is held. It’s a public track and I’ve wanted to drive around it since I was a kid)
  • visit a chocolate factory.
  • go en pointe in ballet (my teacher said I should be strong enough by the end of the year!)
  • have some of my Tauriel Designs jewellery be worn in a tv show or movie. I feel like it would suit characters from shows like Supernatural, The Shannara Chronicles, Shadowhunters, etc.
  • visit New Zealand (for Hazel, and LOTR stuff)
  • visit Hawaii.
  • visit London.
  • visit France.
  • visit Italy.
  • visit Greece.
  • build a proper gingerbread house at Christmas.
  • go to Harry Potter World.
  • go to Disneyland.
  • go to the Doctor Who experience in London (although I heard recently it’s closing this year, I think)
  • learn to speak some French.
  • learn to speak some Italian.
  • see a live production of The Nutcracker at Christmas.
  • swim with dolphins.
  • learn to scuba dive, then go diving on the Great Barrier Reef.
  • give acting another go – at least be an extra in a movie or tv show.
  • do VanCon, HawaiiCon, and VegasCon.
  • donate blood.
  • visit Leanne in Ohio.

Bucket List – before 40

  • do a month long photography project.
  • be earning a full time income from Tauriel Designs
  • donate blood.
  • go to all the AHBL cons.
  • read all the books I own but haven’t read yet.
  • crochet a crazy afghan.
  • renew First Aid/CPR

  • reconnect with old friends / family.
  • give acting another go – at least be an extra in a movie or tv show.
  • hike/picnic at Mt. Tambourine.
  • go to the Medieval Festival.
  • decide what to do with Out of the Dark (my old Etsy store)
  • visit Leanne in Ohio.
  • visit New Zealand (for Hazel, and LOTR stuff)
  • holiday alone at the beach for a few days.
  • take some windsurfing lessons.
  • participate in fundraising activities for Random Acts (Dreams to Acts, E4K, GISHWHES)
  • go see The Griswolds, Walk the Moon, and Placebo with Angie.
  • create a month long self care/photography project to do on Instagram (I have parts of an idea floating around in my head, not sure if it’ll work or not – we’ll see!)
  • get the kids I nanny for involved in doing random acts of kindness.
  • make my own organic lip balms, soaps, body scrubs, candles etc. (potential idea for what to do with my old etsy store!)

So there we have it. For now, anyway. I’d like to try and update this blog maybe once a week, with progress reports, completion reports, updated lists, etc. I also want to blog about random little adventures I have as well. After all, some of the best things that happen in life are impulsive and unplanned!
